At Endu1, we celebrate endurance athletes who push limits, defy expectations, and inspire others to chase their own extraordinary. That’s why we are beyond excited to welcome Amy Hewitt to the Endu1 team! 🏃♀️🐕💥
Amy isn't just an ultra runner - she’s a veterinarian, an animal welfare advocate, and the founder of Australia’s first dog-inclusive ultra marathon, the Barking Mad Ultra. Her journey embodies passion, resilience, and a deep love for both the sport and her four-legged companions.
A Vet with a Passion for Running
Growing up in outback Queensland, Amy always knew she wanted to make a difference in the world. Becoming a veterinarian allowed her to care for animals, but it was ultra running that became her personal outlet – a way to process life, push her limits, and find clarity.
What started as a simple love for trails quickly evolved into something greater. She found the ultra running community and discovered the power of endurance - the idea that choosing pain and pushing through it could strengthen not just the body, but the mind.
Running for a Cause - 100km on a Treadmill for Mental Health Awareness
Amy's dedication goes beyond the finish line. In 2023, she ran 100km on a treadmill wearing vet scrubs to raise awareness for Sophie's Legacy, a charity that supports veterinary mental health. Vets are four times more likely to experience mental health struggles, and Amy wanted to shine a light on the issue.
With her local gym rallying behind her, friends and colleagues running alongside her, and a corporate pledge on the line, she pushed through nearly 18 hours of running. The result? $12,000 raised and an entire community inspired by her commitment. 💙
The Ultimate Bond - Trail Running with Dogs
Amy’s love for running intertwined with her passion for animal welfare when she discovered Canicross – a form of trail running with dogs. Her bond with her rescue dog, Molly, became unbreakable as they explored the trails together, finding solace in the wilderness.
Recognising the joy and connection that comes from running with dogs, Amy took it one step further - she founded the Barking Mad Ultra, Australia’s first dog-friendly ultra race. The event featured distances from 2km to 50km, complete with dog-friendly aid stations, on-site vets, and even a canine dress-up competition! 🐶🏅
Her dedication to mental health awareness, animal welfare, and endurance sports perfectly aligns with Endu1’s mission - fuelling the extraordinary.
We are proud to have Amy as part of the Endu1 family and can’t wait to support her on this incredible journey.
